Workshop (WS)

1 ROLE/DEFINITION

Production of specifications known as CEN Workshop Agreements (CWA).
Workshops are particularly relevant in emerging or rapidly-changing technologies that require quickly-developed specifications or results of research projects.

The CEN or CENELEC Member holding the Secretariat

3 RESPONSIBILITIES

To develop and adopt reference documents that reflect an agreement between the participants.

4 COMPOSITION

Direct participation of anyone having a direct interest, including non-Europeans.

5 METHOD OF APPOINTMENT/REVIEW

5.1 New Workshops may be proposed by any company, group of companies, association, consortia, CEN and CENELEC Members, or by anyone having an interest.
The request shall be submitted to CCMC, either directly or via one of the CEN and CENELEC Members.

5.2 The CEN Members and other interested parties are informed of the proposal (Project Plan) to establish a Workshop which is made publicly accessible through the CEN Web site, with a minimum of 30 days for comments.

5.3 Depending on the self-assessment included in CEN-CENELEC Guide 29 Annex A, the draft Project Plan might need to be submitted to the Technical Board, for review within 4 weeks and no information is circulated with regard to a kick-off meeting date.

  • If no concerns are raised by any of the BT members, the kick-off meeting date is announced and the Project Plan is posted on the CEN Web site for 30 days.
  • If concerns are raised, CCMC shall deal with the concerns with the relevant BT member, the proposed Secretariat and the Workshop proposers within 2 weeks. If no solution is found, the issue shall be put to the attention of the CEN/BT for decision.

5.4 The Workshop is officially established upon the approval of its Project Plan during a kick-off meeting.

5.5 The Workshop Secretariat is allocated to a CEN or CENELEC Member on condition that it has signed the Service Contract with CEN and CENELEC.

5.6 At the kick-off meeting the workshop participants decide on the chairmanship.

6 MODE OF WORKING

6.1 Kick-off meeting, other Workshop Plenary meetings as needed.

6.2 Approval by agreement of registered Workshop participants on final text of the CWA.
